June - BABIES to see!!!!

Well June is gone already! We had 2 trips this month so it was busy. 1st trip was to Tybee Island, Georgia we drove 12 hours for a weekend getaway for Keith's friends wedding which he was best man for. It was beautiful, you will see in pictures below!! I really enjoyed Georgia and would go back again for a vacation in a heartbeat! Miles swam about 15ft on his own in a pool at our hotel in Georgia, pictures below to prove it:) Iris officially started to crawl just before our trip. Although she is not happy crawling she will stop and try and stand up with her bum sticking straight up in the air. She is still not sturdy enough to walk yet but she sure wants to. She just recently started pulling herself up to stand on furniture and such...it's going to get even busier for us really soon!
Our trip to Peterborough was short but jam packed full of exciting family events. My little nephew, Beau, arrived May 29th, I could not wait to get to Peterborough to meet him! We didn't get in until after midnight Friday June 20th but to my surprise my brother brought him to me for a visit early the next morning! He is a perfect peach! I don't know why but from the first picture they sent me I have been calling him a peach so I am just sticking with it:) I love him and can't wait to see him again on our next trip, which will be in only a few weeks!
Another added bonus to this trip was that my cousin from Kelowna was in Peterborough visiting at the same time. Her baby Miko is only a few months younger than Iris. We have been so close our whole lives but having babies around the same time has made us even closer. I am so glad we got to see each other and our kiddos since we both live so far from our original homes. Thank goodness for Skype to keep us in touch between visits!

May reflections

Here are some updated pictures of what we have been up to in May.
I didn't think we had done much but looking back at the pictures I guess we have kept quite busy.

I am starting to reflect on what my kids are up to again. Iris is now 8 months old already and Miles is going to be 5 on his next Birthday - I know it is not for a long time but I am starting to get a reality check on how time is flying by and I don't want to forget these little tidbits of things that they do :)
Don't ever want to forget:
-Miles rubs the tags on the insides of his shirts for comfort/security. Does it mostly in the mornings.
-Miles still asks to be held like a baby after a bath when he is wrapped up in a towel.
-Miles can count to 30 but he always leaves out 16 and 17
-When he writes his name his S looks like a 3 and it usually ends up underneath the rest of his name (runs out of room)
-Iris grabs and plays with my hair and face when she drinks from a bottle
-Iris used to grunt a lot like a bear - still does sometimes
-Iris likes to have blankies up by her face - snuggly when sleeping
-Iris is extremely flexible, can put both feet in her mouth when being changed, goes from sitting to splits to crawling position. Although not officially crawling yet - just getting ready in take off position.

Miles and Iris are interacting a lot more now. Iris loves everything Miles does and she can do things with him now. They both play with mega blocks, Miles builds towers with them and Iris puts them in her mouth. They can have baths together now. Iris's favourite toy is tic toc crock. Both Miles and Iris' favourite tv show is Mickey Mouse clubhouse. Iris is a bit ruff when she pulls hair even Miles has to watch his head getting too close to her. He is surprisingly patient with her and knows she doesn't know what 'no' means yet.

professional pictures of kids - Miles 4 years, Iris 6 months

spring has sprung!

Well spring is very much here in St Louis. Our tulips have had their last day, my favourite flower doesn't last nearly long enough. The blossoms have almost all turned to lush green leaves on the trees. It's very rejuvenating outside these days! Certainly makes us and everyone else in our neighborhood go outside more.

Miles started soccer this spring. Keith and his uncle Sean are the coaches. Miles is mostly interested in the snack they get at the end of the game:) There are actually quite a few good players on the team and it is pretty entertaining to watch. He also started swimming lessons late this winter and is almost finished. It has gained him some confidence in the water without water wings. Although I know we have lots of practicing to do to keep up with it.

Iris is rolling all over the place. She sits up on her own pretty sturdy now. She is exploring different foods, her favourite are pureed sweet potatoes and mashed bananas. She is napping great in the afternoon and sleeping through the night still but only in the playpen in our room. We have started the weaning process of breastfeeding. She is taking one bottle of formula now and seems to like it. The reason was to give me some uninterrupted time to work at night. It's also a great way for her and Keith to bond (as long as she doesn't hear my voice). Love having a mamas girl!

Here are some updated photos for the month of April. Hope everyone had a great Easter! Miles got too much candy! he got a big chocolate bunny that he really wanted, but was surprised that it was hollow not solid!

March

I just had to add a few more photos for the month of March to catch up. I love the picture of the two of them looking at each other! Iris has her hands behind her head when she sleeps sometimes now:) At Iris' 6 month check up she was in the 60% for weight and 30% for height. Miles has a coaster around his wrist as a shield! Not sure if he was a super hero or ninja turtle in this picture?

what a winter!

Surprisingly this winter has just flown by! We never had a chance to get bummed out or depressed from the record cold weather this year because we've just been so busy! I haven't even had a chance to update my blog for a while because every day seems to get away from me. That and we had a surprise last minute trip to Peterborough. One thing I have really been struggling with is working from home with a wee baby while still breastfeeding. It was pretty unrealistic of me to think I could do the same amount of work as I did before Iris came along. Result stress level high most days and many more grey hairs on my head! But still better than sending both kids to daycare full time I think!:)
Here are some updated photos of the kiddos from the winter. Miles is growing up so fast. He is interested in the sounds that letters make and what letter words start with. He's always asking questions. Iris is getting so big and changing so much! She has rolled from back to tummy a few times. She eats a little rice cereal at dinner time and seems to like it. She grabs my hair a lot now and puts it in her mouth, yuck! Actually she puts everything in her mouth especially her fingers.
One of the nick names I use for the kids lately is Care bears. I just found one of Miles' old onesies that says squishy fish on it which is quite fitting for Iris! as you will see she is very squishy:)
